The federal Fair Housing Act prohibits discrimination in housing because of race, color, religion, sex (including sexual orientation and gender identity), national origin, familial status or disability. The South Carolina Fair Housing Law protects the same categories. Other state or local laws may add further protections.

How we describe homes and communities

We describe properties and places by their features, such as housing styles, amenities and location. We do not steer anyone toward or away from an area based on a protected characteristic, and we do not make statements about who does or does not “fit” in a neighborhood. Our community guides are general overviews. We do not rate schools or neighborhoods or make claims about safety. Buyers are encouraged to check official sources for what matters to them.
